What is it?
The Flying Bats Effect is an After Effects template for making custom 3D bat animations. The bats are pre-programmed with automatic wing flapping and flight behavior, imitating the quick, erratic movements of a bat. All the user needs to do is add two or more Position keyframes to the "Leader" bat to tell it where to go. The other "Follower" bats will follow, but with their own random movements mixed in. Use the effect to add flying bats to your halloween animations, or to simulate realistic bat colonies in the distance, for compositing onto your footage.
You can have a single bat in your animation, or add as many bats as you want to create an entire colony with hundreds, or even thousands of bats. A Control Layer with over 50 controls allow you to customize attributes like the bats' appearance, their flight behavior (like automatic wing-flapping), and colony characteristics (like randomness and 3D spread). Or, save time and stick with the default settings, and just create their 3D flight path. The 3D bat models are created from 2D images arranged in 3D space (see rotating bat clip in video), and look very convincing when moving quickly or when seen from a distance.
These bats are also included in the popular "Flocks" template from Creation Effects. For only $20 more, Flocks features an additional 11 species of birds that you can realistically animate and add to your videos.
Details
This effect is for animating flying bats, and can not be used for bats that are landed or hanging. Bats can be animated by creating a single 3D motion path (keyframe the Position of the leader bat). The wing-flapping and random flight movements are automatic, and can be customized with the controls.

The bats in this template are constructed from 2D images arranged in 3D space. They appear to have mass and are very convincing when moving quickly, or when seen from a distance, but they are not true 3D models. The bats have a wingspan resolution/width of 1600 pixels.
This effect will work in 4K and any other resolution. The template has been "universalized" and will work in After Effects running in any language.
Music and backgrounds not included.
