Updated: Jul 21

We’ve just released a new free download: the Mixed Media Animation Toolkit. This collection of assets is designed to help creators achieve a mixed media or scrapbook-style animation look for their videos. These elements can be copied, pasted, and customized quickly, helping you create layered, handmade-looking animations without having to build everything from scratch.

The 100% free toolkit includes over 40 collage-style elements, featuring things like an animated magazine cutout font (an animated ransom-note font, aka "serial killer font"), flowers, speech bubbles, a tinfoil heart, a laughing emoji, and other playful cutout-style graphics. You’ll also find hand-drawn animated doodles—such as a light bulb, radiating squiggly lines, expanding outlines, and a stylized smiley face – along with a variety of animated textures and backgrounds. These include aluminum foil, fabric, layered paper textures, and pages full of scribbles and sketchy marks.

All assets are delivered as MP4 video files and high-resolution images, making them versatile and compatible with most animation and design workflows. Whether you're working in After Effects, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or DaVinci Resolve, the toolkit includes elements that can easily imported into your projects.

Use the included textures as backgrounds for your mixed media animations.

This free toolkit is a sample of the much larger “Mixed Media Effect” template for After Effects, which contains hundreds of stylized effects, animated text options, transitions, and more. When Noel developed the full template earlier this year, he wanted to make part of it freely available so that even creators with limited budgets could still explore the style and start building their own mixed media animations.

Get started on your own mixed media animation by following the free tutorial!

An in-depth video tutorial is also available to guide users through the process of creating their own custom animations using these assets. We’ll share more details about that in the next blog post.

The Mixed Media Animation Toolkit is available now as a free download. It’s a helpful starting point for anyone interested in experimenting with collage animation and creating handcrafted visuals in their projects.
